But not much danger of a feral cat deciding I'm feline-friendly. A friend of mine specializes in taming feral cats. She says it takes her weeks of very careful and determined work.

I'm not particularly in favor of humans hunting for sport either, though I recognize it's often a necessity to keep populations in balance since we've eliminated most predators. Raccoons, though, are a lot worse. Hunting is completely beside the point, an annoyance, really. They just love to kill.
