It's good that I now understand the intended behavior really well, but it's still not doing it right. Time to send a question to my host's helpdesk.

New One more reason to discard it, perhaps?
I use Opera on several PCs as well as a webmail server to connect to a Courier IMAP server and everythings Just Works. It's been a long time since I tried Evolution on that server, but I do remember having scaling problems.
