Republicans are angry. Democrats are running for cover. And the executive director of a group that represents Latino officials of both parties has called it a “worst-case scenario.” It seems the California Citizens Redistricting Commission has hit a nerve.

The new redistricting commission has put forth it's draft. One good sign is that everybody hates it. The new proposal focuses on districts built around actual population centers. This will be bad for Republicans who depend on several gerrymandered monsters to give them some safe hard right seats, but it also merges several districts that give Democrats safe seats.

Hopefully this goes forward without too much mangling, but you can expect lawsuits from both sides before it's accepted.
