New Re: Review: Google Nexus One
Post review updates:

Switched to CyanogenMod 7 nightlies, so am now running Android 2.3.2
Observation: if you install CM7, and then install the wrong version of Google Apps, your phone reboots over and over until you roll back to CM6 (which involves a full device wipe, so most annoying), and then roll forward installing the correct Google Apps at the same time. I paid the price of a pint to get the ROM Manager Premium, which makes avoiding this unfortunate scenario very simple indeed.

Other handy installs:

Compass
Bubble Level
ClockSync (my N1 doesn't sync with the phone network)
My Tracks (for when I'm tramping about in the woods avec les chiens)

New A friend showed me his Android at a noisy party.
We were at a conference banquet in Budapest in a nice but very loud restaurant. He downloaded some SPL (sound pressure level) meter app and started it up. It said it was 85-90 dB in the room. I have no idea how accurate it was (it seemed about right, though), but it was neat to be able to do that so easily.

Thanks for the detailed review. Enjoy!

Cheers,
Scott.
New Do you remember the name of the app or what it looked like?
Remember the mics on the android were setup for right around 350-450 hz.
New Not really.
It was mostly a black screen with a speedometer-like dial and some digits. I think there are 2-3 of them in the Android market, but I'm not sure which one it was exactly.

It might have been this one - https://market.andro...?id=kr.sira.sound

HTH.

Cheers,
Scott.
(Who would be astounded if it were actually accurate, but the bandwidth is something I hadn't considered.)
New Yes its pretty accurate...
That is the best performing one.

Its accurate for "voice" range of noise... so it was probably very accurate considering most of the noise was vocal.

The SPL meter I have from my Dad measured dang near the same.
New Neat. Thanks.

Hopefully it was a very temporary victory of the ignorant.
