New Red Hat 8.0 Beta
[link|ftp://redhat.nitco.com/pub/mirrors/redhat/redhat/linux/beta/|Skipjack] is the Intel-platform beta release of Red Hat 8.0, or so I was told. It's 3 CDs worth. If you have the inclination and the bandwidth, go for it. I saw it installed at an installfest NC State University in Raleigh. One student, with a brand new Toshiba laptop, had Win-XP blown away to get it. No one there had a fdisk that would work for NTFS partitions. The beta will obviously have some annoying bugs, but it does include the beta of KDE 3.0 which looked nice. The Red Hat guys at the installfest were making notes of the install bugs that were seen.

New Ooops... You mean 7.3....
That actual release is v7.2.92. As seen [link|ftp://redhat.nitco.com/pub/mirrors/redhat/redhat/linux/beta/skipjack/en/os/i386/RELEASE-NOTES|Here]

Leads me to believe, it'll be a 7.3 in there... Not really much difference, just some fix-ups where it needs to be, Things added: Debian Alternatives, Kernel Headers are now a GLIBC piece(glibc-kernhead...) not a Kernel piece(kernelX-headers), gPhoto2 added, xscanimage is deprecated(use xsane), oh yeah, KDE 3.0.0. Also, you can install/upgrade using the ISOs in a sinlge directory now. No longer have to extract the files to a seperate directory stucture.

BTW, if it were 8.0 Beta... would have been 7.9.92 or something the like... *GRINS*

New Re: Ooops... You mean 7.3....
You could be very right. The fellow that said "8.0" was not form Red Hat.

New It's 7.3
The rumor I heard was that they were having trouble converting to compiling with their version of gcc 3.1 so they've decided to do another 7.x release while they let 8.0 slip.

New Well... at least rumors are...
Rumors, I heard the same thing. But it was another dead branch of gcc v3.0something. But we get the picture.

Alot of other things didn't show up that I'd expected either... Like newer LOTSA things... as I am forced to update somethings for some products we run.

Oh, well, another revision, some more job security!!! ;)

New On the last 6 RPMs
What should I expect to miss?

Other than the fact it didn't pick up my mouse
and made me go through text install?

I suspect I fried my MB on a hot mouse plug.

It's OK, I have a stack more to try later.
