New Let me tell you about my $4000 486... ;-)
New Mine was $2184...
8MB of memory, 486/33 *DX* with a 110MB and a 256KB VESA SLOT video card. and a 13" Samsung 1024x768x256 monitor. Crappy keyboard and a square mouse.
New 486/66 EISA/SCSI. 6 months later it was $1000 less...
New 1992
486/66 DX2 w/64M of RAM, around $6000 as I remember it. The company I worked for bought two of them for financial modeling.

Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New Ah, the good old days! :-)
New I remember the first time I saw 500M hard drive
I thought, "Wow, that would be like having a server on your desk."

New Hey, I can play this game
My truly insanely expensive P100, with a whole 32MB RAM. The RAM alone cost me 2400 bucks... but it was worth it; ran some real 32 bit systems with flash and style on that machine...
New I could too, though I'm not sure I really want to.
Although I didn't pay for it, I remember my first computer was normally retailing at AU$500 but was on special for Christmas at $300. It had just 16k of RAM, no mass storage and I had to use my own TV!

I do remember paying $1600 for 16Mb of RAM quite some years later, though. It was for a 386SX PC.

Wade.

Q:Is it proper to eat cheeseburgers with your fingers?
A:No, the fingers should be eaten separately.
New /hand waves and my $700 esdi drives!
Any opinions expressed by me are mine alone, posted from my home computer, on my own time as a free American and do not reflect the opinions of any person or company that I have had professional relations with in the past 55 years. meep
New Mine was $5K
It was the 1st computer I ever bought for myself.
It took about a month of extra consulting to pay it off.
