Post #329,396 by beepster 7/11/10 1:38:08 AM Reply	well, had to start from scratch ubuntu had some issues during an upgrade a while back with the vid card on the desktop machine. so..it sat and I used winders partition. decided now, since I am bachelor living for a week or so...to fix the darned thing. latest and greatest seems to be working from a fresh install. nice to be able to use this machine with a real os...had been using the old thinkpad for linux and its starting to get very tired. not sure how much longer it is going to last..as it has a bad contact between case and screen...must be picked up "just so" or it will lose video. It has served me well...zoom zoom. I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.
Post #329,472 by beepster 7/12/10 9:17:32 AM Reply	couple of days in... very impressed with current level of support...very depressed about the dumbing down of some of the interface. Everything is pretty much just working. Lexmark had drivers from my all in one. Scanning works great, printing install was completely automated by the ahell script provided. Photo tools for the camera are plentiful. Chromium makes the web interface pretty much identical to the windows "experience". Mediatomb has some work to do to catch up with TVersity for streaming to the PS3. All in all, though, with the exception of tax season it looks as if being windows free can be reality without compromising anything. (it was always possible, given some compromises). QUESTION...best free virtual machine? If I can put my legal xp into a virtual machine for the april time frame, I could blow out the windows partition all together. I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.

They're targeting people doing OS-type development who therefore need snapshots, and corporate virtual server farms. For things like a Windows OS on a Linux box, VirtualBox is much nicer. Wade. Q:Is it proper to eat cheeseburgers with your fingers? A:No, the fingers should be eaten separately.
