New BP removes riser cap. Unimpeded flow into GOM.
http://rawstory.com/...s-unimpeded-gulf/

WTF? Presumably they had a good reason for it (to replace it with a better one), but there's no explanation that I can find at the main response site: http://www.deepwater...com/go/site/2931/

Presumably there will be an update at TOD when more information is available. http://www.theoildrum.com/node/6645

Cheers,
Scott.
New Makes sense
If the previous analyses were right, the bore is damaged down-hole. Restricting the flow at the sea floor increases the stresses on the remaining structure below.

If they hope to plug the hole from the relief wells, there needs to be some solid structure for them to punch into and pump in the cement.

New Robot bumped it
which closed a vent designed to keep hydrates from building. Removed and checking, to be replaced tonight if it is clear.
I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.
New The cap was damaged by an underwater drone
http://www.cnn.com/2...isaster/?hpt=Sbin
After a day of record crude collection, BP suffered a significant setback Wednesday when a undersea robot accidentally bumped a vent, shutting it off and forcing the company to remove the containment cap through which oil from an undersea gusher in the Gulf of Mexico was being siphoned.

They are going to repair and return it as quickly as possible.

New Thanks all. More at TOD.
(My parenthetical above was meant to be a question.)

There's an update at TheOilDrum. It's suspected that there was a bump by the ROV, but it could have been something else.

It's hard to tell, but they seem to have the LMRP back over the BOP and are messing with it.
