New goop from the cable modem?
My internet's been flakey the past couple of weeks. Comcast came out this morning and all the lines tested out OK so the guy swapped out the cable modem.

When he went to put the new modem on the shelf, he noticed this sticky goop that apparently came out of the cable modem. It was clear with some black stuff in it, and thicker than maple syrup. Any ideas?

The goop couldn't have come from anything else - the shelf is a closet organizer I picked up from Target specifically to de-clutter the network equipment and the cable modem is the only thing that's been on it.

Guess I'll have fun tonight taking it all down so I can clean the shelf. I tried cleaning it in place w/out any luck, there's still sticky residue.
New More than likely...
its stuff.

They are now trying to obfuscate all the chips in the cable modems. I woudl not be surprised if they put some type of epoxy resin over all the chips to "hold them in place".

I'll bet one over heated and melted the cheap stuff they use. They use soft crud so it is *REALLY HARD* to take off without ruining the cable modem.
New Thanks!
New Love that technical jargon!
stuff!

I knew there was a word for that ;-)
I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.
New And glue is cheaper than screws.

Q:Is it proper to eat cheeseburgers with your fingers?
A:No, the fingers should be eaten separately.
