New shoulda used the library computers
http://www.wired.com...cker-bricks-cars/
More than 100 drivers in Austin, Texas found their cars disabled or the horns honking out of control, after an intruder ran amok in a web-based vehicle-immobilization system normally used to get the attention of consumers delinquent in their auto payments.

If we torture the data long enough, it will confess. (Ronald Coase, Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences, 1991)
New I wonder ...
Do those systems have any safeguards in place to make sure a vehicle isn't disabled while it's moving?

Once you've enabled remote control that can be accessed by a hackable system -- and if you've enabled remote control, it is on a hackable system -- are those safeguards actually worth anything?

New 4th paragraph-"The system will not stop a running vehicle."
New 3rd-from-last paragraph ...
Krueger disputes that the horns were honking in the middle of the night; he says the horn honking can only be activated between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

He might be right. Or it might be that the horn time limit is built into the website, not the black box, and it can be circumvented. Is the ignition limiter the same?

New Begs the question...
Do they recall the vehicle to remove the kit once it has been paid, or does the unsuspecting (from the story I imply this was a classified op) owner drive around with a timebomb ticking under the dash forever?
New no, the owners know about it
met a guy at the liquor store who was asking the owner if he could park the truck. I asked him if he needed a jump and he told me how his bank had one installed. His pmt was due friday, this was saturday night
