If you don't know that part of the world, that's from the ass-end of the Mohave Desert, right across the middle of it to another part of the Mohave Desert. (I'm exaggerating, but not by too damn much.)

Made the last third of the trip with the A/C off (duh!) and the windows up, just in case the alleged increased drag of open windows wasn't a myth.

As we turned off the main street in Laughlin to head up the casino -- and the casinos are on the other end of about a half-mile of parking lot -- the engine finally died. I kept the wheel hard to the left and drifted into the gas station on the corner. Muscled the wheel to the right and coasted to a stop without touching the brakes in the last open parking space in front.
