New Can't open a folder in Evolution, any ideas?
It's the biggest folder I've got by a long shot. (Over 5k messages, large but not unreasonable.) I can't copy or move anything into it. When I select it, I see nothing in the preview listing, not even a message saying the folder is empty.

When I look at the .evolution/mail folder, I see all the message still there in the right folder. When I right-click the folder and view properties, I see the correct message count.

Any ideas?

New command line access?
try using imap at the command line to see if any headers have either strange or utf8 strings in them. This may cause issues with the gui you are trying to use to display messages. Not much help I know but I dont know evolution
New Check the filtering.
It's easy to turn filtering on in a folder and not realize you've done it. I've seen my father do this on two separate occasions. I don't remember the exact term but it's probably 'Show Only New Message' or something like that.

Q:Is it proper to eat cheeseburgers with your fingers?
A:No, the fingers should be eaten separately.

What imap server are you using?

Use Mutt to see if you can get at the folder.

FYI, I have some folders with 100k messages in them and its by far fine.

"un-subscribe" to the folder in Evo. Then exit Evo, the from the command line type:

evolution --force-shutdown

That command shuts down the backend processes that Evo leave running after you exit it.

Once you do that restart Evo normally, go in a re-subscribe to the folder.

All, should be well.
New force-shutdown seems to have helped
I did that, then restarted and changed the name of the folder. Another force-shutdown, and restart, and now it's re-syncing it.

New Great.
I always use Evo.

It's never let me down.

The only thing I need to backup is contacts.

Server side IMAP storage is teh b-ah-mb

I think its a fine solution to the problem that you probably shouldn't have.
