fought with it for a bit then used the web interface.
Basically turned off encryptionto see if it would connect that way, which it did. Then set up the SSID to Smith, instead of the default Linksys, and turned back on encryption. Worked, but the MacBook was extremely sluggish even though my MacBookPro was speeding right along. Then changed the channel from 11 to 1 and the poor performance cleared up - so I suspect all the neighbors' WiFi routers were defaulted to 11.
Only thing I did on her MacBook was to show her Exposé and turned on Spaces.
