New Ubuntu 9.10
1/ Edit /etc/apt/sources.list: s/jaunty/karmic/
2/ sudo apt-get update
3/ sudo apt-get upgrade
4/ reboot
5/ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
6/ reboot
7/ There is no step 7

Easy.
New What's your hardware?
I'm nervous about upgrading my Fujitsu P7120d laptop to a newer version (I think it's on Kubuntu 7.x now). Kubuntu 8.x with KDE 4.x was a turtle on my T41, but Ubuntu 9.04 is pretty good on my Lenovo S12 in a virtual machine.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Works good on my Bimmer t40
I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.

Nowt weird about the disks; standard SATA hard disk:

And some optical read/write thingy:

New TMI!!! :-) Thanks muchly.
New I think the short version is...
..."integrated Intel graphics and sound, Atheros wireless, ATA disks, no other fruity hardware".

The Atheros Wifi is a Netgear card, by the way.

ETA: It seems that a pretty bog-standard installation (I've got Roundcube, PostgreSQL and Openfire packages in addition to the usuals, but they don't count for much disk space) comes out at a rather svelte (by comparison with OS X and Windows) 2.7 GB.
