New Re: snow leapard issues
check the list of software that may or may not work here:

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from."

New had a couple myself
Snow Leopard doesn't support my color laser printer, a Xerox Phaser 6120. As a workaround I'm using my hackintoshed Aspire One as a print server.

MediaLink also doesn't work. It's a media server so my PS3 can access files from my MacBookPro. I did a YouTube demo of it before I upgraded to Snow Leopard:

New MediaLink updated
Nullriver posted an alpha of their forthcoming 2.0 release. The alpha works under Snow Leopard, plus it's now 64-bit so System Preferences no longer has to quit and reopen in 32-bit mode when selecting MediaLink.

Looks like there's a new feature coming in 2.0 http://www.nullriver.com/
The final 2.0 version of MediaLink will include full video transcoding functionality that is being polished up for release very soon!
Hopefully the transcoder will allow me to watch videos taken from my Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 camera. They're apparently using older QuickTime format(pre H.264) that the PS3 doesn't understand. It would be even nicer if it could stream iTunes purchased videos, though I won't hold my breath as they've got DRM.

I posted a video of MediaLink in action http://www.youtube.c...tch?v=G6OjbQYFDF4
New Printer now works
Installed 10.6.1, but it didn't help the printer.

Checked Xerox and they've posted a new driver installer and I was able to get it to print.

Oddly enough, I couldn't get it to work via the built in USB port, but I was able to use the USB->Parallel adapter I'd been using with my work laptop. Guess the Dell will get reconfigured tomorrow to use direct USB instead of the adapter.
New USB works today
Just for grins I tried the USB connection today and it worked. Guess I'll leave the Dell on the parallel port after all.

New #1 issue: It's "Leopard" <boink>
New 2.5 is ancient
Parallels 4.0 works fine.

I'm beta testing 5, and that works fine too (although there are some issues with my specific graphics card).
New yabbut I didnt want to pay money for an upgrade
and with the exchange tools provided I dont need it anyy more
New My Brother multifunction printer barely works.
It runs at a fraction of the prior speed. It's actually 4-5 years old and now supported by CUPS, so it makes me wonder WTF Apple did. 32 bit drivers in 64 bit system with a translation layer maybe?

Bought a Canon Pixma multifunction (MX860) for the WiFi mode. Works great from my wife's XP, but gets errors and prints nothing from my Mac in WiFi mode. Canon accepts responsibility for the incompatibility in WiFi mode and suggests using USB cable until their software upgraded.

As far as Im concerned Snow Leopard was a rush job to get in front of Microsoft's OS release. I wish I had waited a few months to install Snow Leopard.

New Printer fixes/enhancements expected in 10.6.1
Here's hoping it fixes both our printer issues!

New my hp ps1300 isnt working either
but the postcript a work is fine. For $30 bucks I got completely rid of windows and the crap cicsco vpn client to me all of the other stuff I can put up with
New Interesting....
A while back in Hardware, I'd posted a note about wanting to replace my Canon inkjet with a color laser. I was recommended a Xerox Phaser by a couple of folks here, but after some searching, I couldn't find a Phaser that also did copying.....So I ended up with a Brother color laser that copies as well. Picked that up and installed it Thursday night, but I have not yet upgraded to Snow Leopard. Sounds like I'll be waiting for 10.6.1 before I make the drive to the new Apple store in downtown Naperville.....Thanks for the heads-up!

New For the record, my multifunction Brother is a 210C inkjet.

New Printer issues surprisingly transient
Between what I'd read in the past few days and the memory of sundry traumas times past, I was not completely nonplussed when my venerable battlewagon of an HP LaserJet 6MP went AWOL from the printer roster this time out, and did not appear when called by name. I've had printer functionality break bigtime in the course of a couple of previous upgrades. My setup's already a little dicey, because there are two black boxes—the router and a so-called "JetDirect EX Plus" adaptor— strung along the queue of electrons passing back and forth between printer and iMac. About two minutes of research revealed that the printer could be fetched back from Upgrade Valhalla by invoking its True Name (or "IP address" as the mages call it), and three minutes more that in this configuration the 6MP would speak its True Name should the supplicant make a mystical gesture with the tip of his forefinger, depressing the "Test" button on the holy JetDirect EX Plus.

This was done, and that was done, and that too, and the spirit of the absent LaserJet was duly summoned from the vasty deep by means of the "Gutenprint 5.2.3" driver already present somewhere in the bowels of the Library here. Total elapsed time between first attempt to print coming a-cropper and Rand's horase cries of "Eureka!" frightening the parakeets < 10 minutes.

New printer issues solved
apparently one of the reasons that snow leopard is smaller is because it doesnt install every printer driver known to man. Click on updates it sees an HP on the USB and goes off to look for a driver. Printer is now working
