New Keeping my Crown Vic
Just got a 1990 Crown Vic.

I love it.

They start allowing them 1995 and above, which make no sense, since they allow for the 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis, which is the essentially the same car.

Was free.

I put $240 into it for brakes (good), tires (crap), and a bit of engine tuning to get it past PA state inspection.

Bench seats and a fuel injected V8. Heaven. I usually do not drive with the overdrive on until I hit cruising on the highway, don't like the shift at 38 mph when I'm accelerating into traffic.

This thing is an adventure. Steering is "interesting". You really have to plan your turns in advance, and tight city streets with people parked on corners is fun. Bouncing curving exit ramps are a roller coaster.

Good new tires, shocks, and an alignment should help, at least on the highway.

Supposed 14-22 MPG. I have no idea, I've only filled it once so far, $38, and I seem to get about 5 days of driving out of that. Odometer's broken, so that's the best I'll get as far as possible numbers.
New Re: Keeping my Crown Vic
if its the 302 motor and overdrive tranny that works 16-18 in town and 23-25 highway. Sounds like it needs shocks at least, those things can drift nicely around corners
New Ok, now I'm wondering
The boy loves it.
He has no problem with the steering.

but:
It'll take around $2,000 to make the car drivable for the long term.

And I can get 93 to 02 models, with good steering, for about that price, maybe another $500.

Imagine his face when I said:

Would you like to have a police interceptor instead?

We move in 2 weeks back to Jersey. This car probably won't pass Jersey emissions, so we have an incentive not to put a dime into it until we find out then.

So we have some car shopping time.

Anybody wanna wander through the recent list and make any recommendations?

what do you want for yers?
New Mine?
Dunno.
Probably nothing.
If we dump it, and no local family member wants it, happy to toss it your way.

Take the train or bus up, drive back.

And yes, both those look good. But I need to take the boy test driving, and that won't be for 2 weeks. He's busy. And then I'm moving. So I'm busy. So it'll probably be a month or so until we start really looking.
