New Out 170 total votes, on a site geared to political adtivists
That's a bit different from the governor of a state saying it.

New actually, somebody in the crowd said it
http://www.chron.com...p/tx/6375677.html
Perry fired up an anti-tax "tea party" Wednesday with his stance against the federal government and for states' rights as some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, "Secede!"

when he was asked about it by a reporter
Perry suggested Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union, though he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that.

From there it pretty much ballooned. What I was pointing out was the people (based on their comments) of that same site had a rather positive response to Vermont, while a rather venomous one to Texas - over the same issue.
New It makes a better story...
...to poll 50 people at "random", throw a low MOE in there and say "everybody thinks this"!
I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.
New Maybe because
2 years ago Vermont wasn't getting hundreds of millions of dollars in stimulus money?

Just a thought.

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from."

New Texas is a Tax Donor State
so we're just getting back what we've overpaid.
New Isn't that..
you're getting back >less< than you've overpaid? ;-)

Big evil oil barons that you are! I watched Dallas! I know who shot JR!
I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.
New true
and maybe those commentators were supportive of Vermont seceding because they're a Tax Donee State.
