Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Running all but / on reiser now.
Which is really handy now when I get lockups/gnome barfs and takes the keyboard/mouse away....

Which is happening(ed) a lot since Friday, when I was getting *prepared* for it. :)

Now, to figure how to get reiser's module loaded (or just recompile the kernel. Definately less impressive). :)

Got 5% space back on a 4G drive with reiser (that was completely filled up).

Now... to try and figure how to backup, re-low level the disk (I'm getting errors with dump, and wondering if the hard drive might be the problem)...without having to reinstall RH 7.1 (cause I don't think I can get it to use reiser, off the CD).

(and I want to expand swap space, and make / bigger)

New Reiserfs root can be done.
Had / running with reiserfs for quite a while now. It's great.
No problems so far.
You will have to rebuild your kernel with reiserfs inlined.
It's a bit hard to load the requisite module if the kernel doesn't know the filesystem type to read for obtaining the modules and root filesystem.
I got caught out by that problem and unfortunately forgot to have a backup arrangement.
Fortunately it was sorted out with some juggling.
You could be daring and run with devfs as well.
Again no problems and very easy with Debian :)
New I know.
But I haven't gotten around to doing all the work needed to get root on it.

The kernel's got reiser inline now.. But clearing / and then moving it back will require some thought.

And I was just told by our resident Linux Zealot (working on the Linux Virtual Server) that he moved everything this weekend to ext3, and that converted without reformatting.

Hrrrrm.

New I'm running out of bleeding edge options :)
It looks like it's time to convert my old ext2 partition to ext3.
It gets a bit dull when the bleeding edge starts stabilising...:(
Reiserfs has been rather lacking in showstoppers for quite some time :(
Though I'm still having trouble running VMware on my 2.4 system. It worked before :(
If I can get it sorted out I might consider paying for registration.

New That's been the biggest reason I've waited.
I have too much stuff to back off and then restore easily. But if ext3 can convert without reformatting...

I suggest a new strategy: let the Wookie win.
