New Firewire card
So I want to be able to ready from my cameras, but have no firewire card.

This looks promising:

I REALLY like this comment:

A good product

The installation of the card is absolutely effortless-- like plugging a power cord to a wall socket. The instructions provide no guidance with regard to the actual insertion of the card inside the CPU. This may be due to the fact that it is intuitive onceinside the CPU. It may also be due to the fact that opening the CPU varies by manufacturer. (I have a Dell Dimension 5510). I did review my owners manual to learn how to remove the 'dummy plate' on the backside of the CPU.
My experience with the driverswas a bit humorous. Somehow I managed to get it done properly without knowing it was complete. I spent some unnecessary time trying to complete the process when it was complete w/o my knowledge.
The cost seems in-line with other options or less.

New Re: Firewire card
Any will do. Install is easy.
I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.
New Unless you're putting it in a dinosaur
My BIOS doesn't speak to the firewire card I bought. And since I've got a workaround, I'm not going to keep trying $20 at a time until I find one that works.

New OT one is a country in South America, the other is texmex
New Not just a *little* OT, that's in a different time zone

New But
How'd you figure he was even talking about that?
New Because it was his site and he just did the update
would be my guess :-)

New Not always true
If you ever plan on using a Firewire audio recording interface, you may want to stick to a card that uses the Texas Instruments chipset. Most manufacturers of the interface boxes strongly recommend it.
New Thanks
New ok, installed
And of course I realised I only needed a USB connection for that particular camera.
But the firewire will come in handy for others.

Hook camera to EEP PC, use mplayer on the silly .mod extension files, plays.

Yay.
