----
Iraqi secret police believed that the notorious Palestinian assassin Abu Nidal was working for the Americans as well as Egypt and Kuwait when they interrogated him in Baghdad only months before the Anglo-American invasion of Iraq. Hitherto secret documents which are now in the hands of The Independent  written by Saddam Hussein's brutal security services for Saddam's eyes only  state that he had been "colluding" with the Americans and, with the help of the Egyptians and Kuwaitis, was trying to find evidence linking Saddam and al-Qa'ida.
----
Prior to the invasion, Bush claimed that Saddam had Nidal killed when he became too much of an embarrassment and too risky to keep around. But these papers indicate he killed himself after Iraqi intelligence discovered he was spying for other powers, including the US. Apparently, he realized he was being hauled off for torture and execution, and decided to take the quick way out.
The article doesn't explain why the Iraqi agents thought he was working for the US, but they seem to have caught him working for Kuwaiti intelligence. And in the eyes of Iraqi intelligence, those may have been the same thing.
