New Horrible review
I HAVE to watch this tonight just because of the review.

An excruciatingly unfunny comedy in which one of those luggage mix-ups that only happens in the movies leaves nice young kid Charlie (Andy Comeau), who's on his way to meet his girlfriend's snotty parents for the first time, in possession of the duffel bag full of human heads that hit man Tommy Spinelli (Joe Pesci) is supposed to deliver to some capo di tutti capo or other. Academy Award-winning screenwriter Tom Schulman ( DEAD POETS SOCIETY) chooses a notoriously tough genre -- black comedy -- for his directing debut, and the botched result is really painful to watch. Pesci -- of whom a little goes a long way under the best of circumstances -- turns in a sour, thuggish performance, while the rest of the cast flails about in a frenzy of hysterical screaming and mugging, frantically attempting to lighten things up. You can't help but feel sorry for the likes of Dyan Cannon, George Hamilton, Kristy Swanson and newcomer Comeau, but that doesn't make what they're doing funny. Smarmy SNL alumnus David Spade, meanwhile, is a standout in the small role of Charlie's medical school roommate: He's so smugly annoying you pray the volatile Tommy will kill him. In fact, it's hard not to wish that everyone's head were in that duffel bag, because then we could all go home. --Maitland McDonagh
