Re: Stardust
Saw it during the holiday weekend at the local [link|http://www.parkway-speakeasy.com/index.php|"speakeasy"] theatre (beer and pizza; seating on couches) and liked it well enough, with a couple of reservations. Some critics are speaking of it as though it were the second coming of The Princess Bride, which seems to me to give the film a tad too much credit. It's amusing, however, with some inspired gags (including a rustic farmhand who, following an intermediate metamorphosis, is transformed by witchcraft into a comely tavern wench, and glances at his/her bosom with lewd delight) and an overall sense that the whole cast was enjoying itself. I do wish, though, that the filmmakers had not felt compelled to punch up the product with an overbearing soundtrack: you know, the Cue the "Sense of Wonder" full orchestra, Charlie! stuff. Not likely ever to be represented in the home video library, but a diverting two hours, and fun, as crazy observes, for the tykes and for their parents.
