New A couple need clarification
15 Kick or Punt: the real reason for this indentation is to concentrate sediment into a narrow space around the edge of the bottom of the bottle so it is more caked and less likely to come loose when the wine is poured.

22 Peen: this does not apply to claw hammers. Generally the peen is round for shaping metal (ball peen) but it may be other shapes on specialty hammers.

New Well, I assumed it referred to ball-peen hammers.

Is it enough to love
Is it enough to breathe
Somebody rip my heart out
And leave me here to bleed

Is it enough to die
Somebody save my life
I'd rather be Anything but Ordinary
Please

New But given the practical knowledge . . .
. . of today's condo dwellers, a great many have never seen or heard of a ball peen hammer.

New Hammer? What's a hammer?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. (Herm Albright)
New Can't touch this!

New Sobriquet of particularly noxious HR Pol?

New Some have multiple meanings, as well.
There's something called [link|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shot_peening|shot peen] that is a process in which tiny ball-bearings are applied to metals in a process like sandblasting. It serves to harden surfaces (e.g. in connecting rods of racing engines.) IOW, peen is also a verb.

[link|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrule|Ferrule] is also the name of a tapered ring in a tube fitting used to ensure a leak-tight seal that can be disconnected and reconnected several times. It's also the name for a metal clamping ring around cables, etc., to keep them from fraying and to tie them around bushings, etc.

Another list of obscure words is [link|http://www.kokogiak.com/logolepsy/|Luciferous Logolepsy].

Cheers,
Scott.
New And of course, peen is what you do with . . .
. . a ball peen hammer.

New Sometimes in the middle of the night! :)
