New An Arab proposal for peace with Israel.
[link|http://www.nytimes.com/2002/02/17/opinion/17FRIE.html|NY Times: THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN column.]
In return for a total withdrawal by Israel to the June 4, 1967, lines, and the establishment of a Palestinian state, the 22 members of the Arab League would offer Israel full diplomatic relations, normalized trade and security guarantees. Full withdrawal, in accord with U.N. Resolution 242, for full peace between Israel and the entire Arab world. Why not?
In the past, I have said substantially the same to our Israeli friend bluke. Dollars to donuts this would be rejected on the Israeli side for many expressed reasons, but really because it precludes a Greater Israel.

"Security guarantees"? Bwaaaa haaa haaaaa haaaaaa ha ha

Personally, I think they should agree to give land to Isreal for Palistian-induced suicide deaths and injuries. IOW, make the contract self-regulating. If Palistine does not stop terrorists deaths and injuries, then the body and limb count is numerically translated into land toward Isreal.

Not pretty, but better than the "you start first" crap that we have been getting for the past 3 decades.

New 2 problems
full withdrawal from Jerusalem and no mention of resolution of the right of return. That makes it a deal breaker, a dmarked border, Jerusalem an international city with the current split of responsibilities on the temple mount and an as is for the refugees.

Barring something really really drastic, there is no way those two groups are gonna get along, such as sharing the *same* land. They hate each other bone deep. The hatred is pounded into them from childhood. Each is a Grand Victim, and the other side is Pure Evil in their heads.

Get an international coolition and forcefully go in and put up the biggest fattest wall the earth has ever seen. Otherwise they are gonna drag the rest of the world down to hell with them. They are already doing it.

New Yeah, some tough details to work out.
It's very hard, but not impossible. Maybe some reparations to buy off right of return for most. And, it wouldn't destroy Israel to accept some returnees.

There could be some give and take on Jerusalem as well. Jews want the Wailing Wall and Palestinians need a land link between Gaza and West Bank so some territorial exchanges and joint or shared control of some land need to be worked out. International areas are possible as well, but that is a new creation for a populated area.

I sure would like to feel good about Israel again.
