New Hitachi to stop making tubes. <snif!>
There are good reasons to go to TFT displays (power, weight, size, lack of flicker, etc.), but it's hard to beat a tube display for high resolution, large size screens at a reasonable price.

buy.com has the 19" Hitachi CM771 for $362.95 It's a nice tube (I'm looking at one now). I hope the price continues to drop before they dry up - I'd like to get one for home....

Cheers,
Scott.
New What that means is they were getting pounded.
Yes, it's time for the number of CRT monitor companies to decrease, starting with those that can't squeeze out a profit.

As for tube makers, that isn't likely to decrease much for some time, there's only just a few of them supplying all the monitor makers.

New Yes, but Hitachi has quit making tubes, too
so the number has decreased already.

New Oh, *monitors*! I thought you meant...
...tube *valves* -- and was rather surprised that Hitachi (as I mis-read you) was still making them in the first place!
