And with his fall, the GOP no longer has a token Hispanic to point to; hence no need to try to maintain the "racist? Me? Some of my best friends are Hispanic" facade. So they'll concede that segment of the vote to the Democrats (would have gone Dem anyway, in all probability) and focus on the base, which is imminently concerned about dirty Mexicans coming to steal their jobs and rape their daughters.

I've lived my entire life in places where the Republican base is heavily concentrated. If not for some of the positions they take and encourage, I'd probably be a registered Republican -- I miss the good old days of the cautious conservative who put individual liberty first.
