He absolutely must-Not miss hearing/seeing the current Daniel Barenboim "Great Performance(s)" of several Beethoven sonatas + Master Class.. gotta get to a Tee Vee somewheres.
In explaining why he Cannot 'explain' in scientific language {that which is the ?essence? of the/a passage} he invokes physics, metaphysics and -->Striving-->
- as eloquently as any efforts-with-words about-music I've heard in such classes. There is something within his meticulous repetition of the 'in scientific language' phrase, within his attempt to make a subtle point which -- well, he should see this.
Among 'students' is Lang Lang, also doing the Appassionata ... the colloquy between them, the rapid-fire music notation + instant-demo followed by subtle change + electricity - -
Well, anyway: PBS will have refs to this; apparently Barenboim has a lengthy slice of the whole Beethoven repertoire out on CD. But it really helps to See him performing, teaching. Dunno how many repeats of Great Performances around the country...
