Welcome to IWETHEY!

New PS/2->USB adapters exist.
They take a little hunting, but they are around. Mine was about AU$15.

New Best to get one on a try-before-you-buy basis
We had some appalling experiences with these at work. Whether it works or not seems to depend on the device, the adapter and the USB controller to which you're connecting.

We gave up and simply sourced USB devices.

I assume, of course, you're talking about the things that let you plug PS/2 devices (i.e. mice and keyboards) into USB ports.

The other ones, that get shipped with most USB mice and let you plug your USB mouse into a PS/2 slot, work much, much better.

New Colour me surprised.
The one I got is made by "Comsol". It has never given me a problem. Mind you, it's always been into Dell hardware, except for my Happy Hacking keyboard. YMMV, I guess.
