Stick with the email, since he's in the Reserves and has been called up since September. He returns to the office for one or two days every two weeks. Just say that you've heard we might have an opening and you would like to be considered; don't need to mention me since they don't give referral bonuses. And they don't offer relocation, unless you're a very good negotiator.
