New OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG !!!!1111one1eleven
That is only the coolest thing in the history of EVER! I so want one. And I don't care what Todd says, I've never seen anyone do that before. Yes, lots of people tried, but this one actually works. Lots of people died trying to do things we now consider routine.

New Dude
People who are dead include
1) The guy who invented [link|http://www.bpa.org.uk/skydive/pages/people/gayardon.htm|sky surfing]
2) The guy who popularized winged suits
3) The first guy who tried flying with 'bat wings' (which are banned from reputable skydiving centers now)
4) The last 10 guys that tried to break Kittenger's freefall [link|http://www.damninteresting.com/?p=397|record].
5) The guy who did the fancy [link|http://www.snopes.com/radiotv/tv/harris.htm|skysurfing] in the soda commercials.
6) The [link|http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/10/06/1065292525849.html?from=storyrhs|guy] who tried to freefall into Royal Gorge.
They were in the freefall mags every couple months - until they bounced.

BTW, there is a cable show called Stunt Junkies - lots of lower and lower base jumps. Some involving jumping motorcycles off ramps into ravines. The problem with pursuing lower and lower jumps is that the logical conclusion is death.

The rocket wing looks pretty cool, but I still expect to see this guy die pretty soon.

New *He* may be an adrenaline junkie
Which is why he's the only one brave/stupid enough to fly the prototypes. But eventually that thing is going to be relatively safe.

And when it is, I want to fly it.

New Nothing that flies has ever yet become safe for
the casual (untrained - average if you like) user.

Not ultralights, not balloons, not airplanes, not parachutes, and definitely not rocket powered folding wings.

New Never said I wouldn't train for it
Besides, there is something untrained users get to fly. My father won a flight in one of [link|http://www.ultralighthomepage.com/PICS/buckeye.gif|these] in a contest. I'm not saying the risk or the skill required is anywhere near that wing, but it's really not true that there's never been anything untrained users could fly.

Whether it's actually safe or not is, of course, open to debate.
