\ufffdThe only problem with Microsoft is they just have no taste. They have absolutely no taste. And I don't mean that in a small way, I mean that in a big way, in the sense that they don't think of original ideas, and they don't bring much culture into their products.\ufffd - Steve Jobs
Maybe.. after the countless technical analyses of the overall shoddiness are tabulated, what strikes the nonprogrammer is ~~ as Steve opines: the plodding Repo-like formulas, the condescending toy-names filling that plethora of, "Within the context of no context"[1] menus and, overall:

The <omission> one senses and resents, throughout / that there is neither cuth nor class here. It's not even up to F.W. Woolworths standards, that 'five-and-dime' of another era of design stagnation. Doze - all the visceral excitement of a random strip-mall.. but with DRM! if that aura wasn't bummer enough :-/

1) A book by George W. S. Trow, once cited by our now regularly absent Mr. Brewer.
Cover quote by John Irving, NY Review of Books: This elegant little book is essential reading for anyone interested in the demise, the terminal silliness, of our culture.

...

This slim and elegant volume cracks the code of Media Age in which we've all spent our lifetimes marinating. If you want to understand why you feel the ways that you feel, You'd better read it.
-- Bill McKibben

New Thanks for the book reminder. It looks interesting.
New I want NetFlix for books
Blockbuster is like a library, except they deal in movies, and you have to pay for each one. Netflix adds convenient shipping, and a way to build a queue.

I want NetFlix for books. I wonder if I could work out a deal with a library system, hmm ...
