Maybe it helped but at the time of the extinction a major volcanic event laid down basalt flows more than 6000 feet thick over more than 1/2 milion square miles of the Indian subcontinent (see "[link|http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/volc_images/europe_west_asia/india/deccan.html|Deccan Traps]") - all in a geological instant. That would result in quite some climate change, yes it would, with toxic air and acid rain to boot.
Nothing says that can't happen again, and geologists say it's likely (but on a far smaller scale) in the U.S. Pacific Northwest.
