I noticed the same linguistic point he mentions, long before I read that screed on Salon (pretty much as soon as the formation of it was announced, IIRC): A "Department of Homeland Security", that sounds like something that should be run by someone like Reinhard Heydrich. Homeland__ rules" cha) From Day1 I've read-back: "Department of Fatherland Security says ... WHAT?!" This always gets a smile from sentient beings - a troubled self-conscious smirk from those who manifestly had swallowed the Kool-Aid. Fortunately to-date - rare occurrences. I've opted out of flying places, since the Panic began. (My earliest experience had conditioned in me an aversion to most-all The Uniformed, anyway.. Pavlovian, no doubt.)
