New I especially think it's the confluence of
hfcs and trans fatty acids; how often does one not eat one without the other; fries with your coke?

With the big blast of calories from the sugar, the body makes no attempt to burn the trans fats at all; just stores them. Considering that your piling back five to ten grams of the stuff every time you hit a fast food joint, it just adds up over time...
