My appreciation for music has followed the same arc as my appreciation for software. I used to do a lot of it -- playing the music, writing the code. I was pretty good. I recognized and respected good craftsmanship.
Now watching that video made me realize I'm at the same point with music that I already recognized with code over a year ago: I'm just not impressed by simple craftsmanship any more. Oh sure, I think you need really good craftsman to get a good result, but it's something I think anyone with some aptitude and determination can learn.
But creating something genuinely new, now that's special. And you don't even need to be a great craftsman to do it. Jimi Hendrix could never play what those two guys did. But in 30 years, do you think anyone will remember them?
