New Argh... MacBook Pro hard drive failure
So I'm happily sitting on the couch when the notebook just stops responding for 10, 15 seconds at a time. Then I notice an odd noise coming from the hard drive. Quick check of the syslog, lots of weird hard drive messages in there. I decide to restart it.

Gray screen, then a blinking folder icon. Damn.

Is it worth bringing it into an Apple store, or just calling tech support directly?

New I'd call em.
I think the store would confirm your diagnosis then send it in for repair.

New This is not a problem...
You are not noticing failure... these aren't the driods you are looking for.

Good luck.

New Took it to the Apple Store
Which turned out to be a good idea, because they can do diagnostics there. Verdict: send it to the repair depot; I should have it back by Friday.
