On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.

The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets."
New GTA 0.1
Huge helpings each of stupid, skilled, reckless and lucky. There were so many blind alleys and other chances for horrible outcomes completely out of the driver's control, it's amazing nothing went wrong.

New Some points on the film
1. It's not a Ferrari 275 GTB. It's a Mercedes 450 SEL.
2. It wasn't an F1 driver, it was LeLouch himself.
3. It was speeded up.
4. The Ferrari noises were dubbed over the top.

It's still a fine film, if a bit irresponsible.

New Yar
there are stretches (having driven in paris) where the gain speed of a ferrari running full tilt would have been much faster on traffic.

Definitely doctored...but still looks like fun.

On a similar note, I am signed up for a Mazda owners event for next Sat where I will be allowed to drive the models of my choice on a closed loop track for about 30 minutes.

Not sure how a 528i is going to react to being tracked, but it'll be fun finding out. Have to see when the next track day at Croft (20 miles away) is.
