Hot Damn, I've been waiting for the release of Vista.
1) looks nice Subjective.
Fugly, IMNSHO. 2) Sidebar is cute but I don't really see what good it is unless third parties add new gadgets It's a gimmick until it grows dashboard/Y! gadgets functionality.
Sort of like Desklets in GNOME 3) despite passing all tests for Vista readiness, the advanced graphics aren't working on my beta 2 install Working here, but you're not alone.
So, I am guess another bump in the DirectX/DirectHA$$le 4) seems slow for a box w/ 2 GB RAM Doesn't it just?
Wow, 2GB. I am guessing the Memory companies are salivating, waiting like the rest of us. 5) new search either sucks or takes a lot of getting used to Werd.
Hmmm, maybe they should not have flipped the Kill-Switch on WinFS 6) search is also run but I only found that out by typing in winword and having Word 2007 beta open Ar. But the run entry can be added to your start menu.
Cool, but why can't we do it easily... or have it by default? 7) didn't try Firefox on it as the mozilla site does not list Vista as an OS Works fine.
Probably the best piece of software currently running on Vista. 8) wanted to put the CA anti-virus for Vista on, but they never sent me the email w/ the download link after I registered, so installed Trend Micro, which is a suite with a firewall that turns off Windows firewall and runs its own instead The CA stuff is poo. Every time you login you get a UAP prompt to load the system tray things, and you can't turn them off.
CA is poo. Not just the AV stuff. As the saying goes... If CA buys a company or product line, it is the kiss of death for usability formerly available 9) like the InkBall game (won't play on XP) Ar.
Awesome, more games to remove from the corporate Desktop. Or the old commercial Commentator says: "Hey you just bought your new computer, what are you doing with it now?" Reply from Consumer in a "Ben Stein" like voice: "Playing cards." Commentator: "Really?" Consumer: "Yep, playing cards." But then I get to have a new game! 10) new version of Hearts looks nice Ar.
Really, I was really getting sick and tired of the old look, myself. Justifies the Whole Vista thing, period 11) starting to get into MahJong Ar.
All hail Microsoft for innovating entertainment, bringing MahJong to the PC. It was getting sickening playing it on a table. MS innovating Mahjong? Nope,
it was in OS/2 Warp! I spent too many hours playing it.
Mahjong is still THE GAME for most Chinese, kinda like poker is for Americans.

YES, NO.
OS/2 Warp ran rings around anything else.
It had more advanced features than any other PC OS when it came out.
It had a consistent, beautiful and useful interface.
It actually WORKED, and didn't crash. (In fact, when I took visitors on tours of our datacenter, I used to point to the Warp server and the NT server, and ask them if they could tell the difference from the outside - the difference was that the OS/2 server had the yellowed tape over the power switch).
The fact that MS had a hand in OS/2 1.x does not make later versions warmed over Windows, as you imply...

Define "crashy".
You have requested installation of 12 Windows updates from Microsoft Windows Update. 3 updates must be installed separately. Please stand by while your system is rebooted 27 times and the update installations complete.

I've been supporting Windows since before 3.1 and crashes due strictly to OS bugs are simply not the issue they once were. Note I did not say nonexistent. But, they aren't a big enough concern for me to worry over. I have all my field staff set to use automatic updates and just about the only calls I get related to updates are from users worried about installing *anything* in response to a "popup".
Almost the entirety of "my system crashed" calls are hardware related.

In fact, I think that X is now less stable than Windows.
While the underlying OS might be more robust (and I don't seriously think there's much in it between Windows, Linux, the *BSDs and OS X these days), if your display driver crashes, the operating system might as well have crashed. Xorg is teething at the moment.
A shit ATI driver (supplied by ATI) was the cause of some serious instability in my Vista installation. The kernel never blinked, but as far as I was concerned, it was titsup.com.
Of course, none of the aforementioned "operating systems" hold a candle to Proper Software like OS/400 and OpenVMS when it comes to "not falling apart at critical moments".

Avidly seeking AS400
A good deal on an old small one + OS, of the silent type -
A useable browser - modest video card support; sound nice but optional.
A simple POP mail client; requisite comm.
Will trade copies of 1900s cornet solos for once=final installation labor -
(Modern copies of Nakariakov solos - for maintenance recipes in English, too.)
I won't need to know about booting options - it can sit in closet for years w/UPS.
Yes, I know it can run n-instances of *nix and others. Begs the issue.
What ... it can't do the above, native? Yet??

I created a custom tile set
I found out you could replace the images in the resource file with your own images and made a tile set using photos of friends and family.
