New Does anyone else find this wrong?
From CNN [link|http://www.cnn.com/2006/EDUCATION/06/13/hitler.yearbook.ap/index.html|Hitler quotes in yearbook prompt apology "]
NORTHPORT, New York (AP) -- Two high school seniors picked quotations from Adolf Hitler's book "Mein Kampf" to appear under their high school yearbook pictures, prompting school officials to apologize.

The quotes were picked by Christopher Koulermos and Philip Compton, both 18. Koulermos' read "Strength lies not in defense, but in attack." Compton chose "The great masses of people ... will more easily fall victims to a big lie than to a small one."

"It's our responsibility and we failed miserably," said Northport High School principal Irene McLaughlin. "The fact that the book went out in the form it did was a grave mistake on our part."
What's wrong with these quotes? imo it's wrong to be blocking the quotes, or "censoring" the students, or to be apologizing to the parents. Even if the quotes were attributed to Hitler in the yearbook, I don't find anything wrong with the selection of these quotes. I can find much more offensive statements attributed to Homer Simpson.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. (Herm Albright)

New Only the source.
New Nope
For a nation that advocates free speech, blocking the quotes makes no sense. The yearbook contains statements of the students, not the school. If you block any, then it should be called a marketing document, not a student yearbook. The statements themselves cannot be said to incite hatred or divisiveness.

So the principal doesn't like the idea that students choose Hitler as a model. Tough! They're big and ugly enough to make their own decisions now.

Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?

New If they can quote the Bible, they can quote Der Fuhrer

Any opinions expressed by me are mine alone, posted from my home computer, on my own time as a free american and do not reflect the opinions of any person or company that I have had professional relations with in the past 50 years. meep
New I *like* the second quote
The source makes it particularly good IMO. Any democracy which isn't willing to look at that idea and ponder it carefully is a democracy that is ready to stop being a democracy.

Cheers,
