Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Hmm dunno
fstab entry:

//phl-fulprod/afpoutput /data/ff_win/afpoutput cifs rw,credentials=/etc/samba/credentials,gid=prod,dir_mode=0770,file_mode=0660,ip=10.0.0.1,direct

That 10.x.x.x address is over the 2nd interface on each box, gbit, dedicated.
IO is VERY fast. Can't really tell the different between local disk and network disk, and the local disk is more than fast enough.

What is the "-o sfu"?
New -o sfu ==
the option to also try the cifs "services for unix" extentions as well. By default SFU is not even tried, when using CIFS because it assumes proper CIFS.

But since we both know you have good Windows Admins, I am willing to bet -o sfu will work.
