New Sendmail on Linux
I'm trying to set up a mail server using sendmail. After slogging my way through the O'Reilly's Bat Book I have a configuration that seems to do what I need to do (I used the default sendmail.cf and added only local routing stuff).

I've established a dial-up connection which seems to work OK and my ISP has done the appropriate administration on their end. (I'm going to assume for the moment anyway that they did their job OK).

The problem is that I'm not getting any mail in or out of the box. Are there more tweaks to sendmail that I have to do or something else?

Can someone point me in the right direction here ? I guess what I'm really asking is: Does sendmail control the physical receipt of mail or is that handled by a different mechanism?

Thanks,

Cliff Kennedy

New There are easier to configure mailers.
SendMail has a reputation for being hard to configure and has a history of security holes. If you're willing to throw away all that time configuring it, here are some alternatives:

I myself use Courier. I haven't tried the other two.
