New Busted for drinking in a bar?
[link|http://www.nbc5i.com/news/8034788/detail.html|http://www.nbc5i.com...34788/detail.html]

IRVING, Texas -- The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has taken its fight against drunken driving to a new level. TABC agents, along with Irving police, targeted 36 bars and clubs Friday, arresting some allegedly intoxicated patrons before they departed the businesses.

The officers and agents also kept watch on bartenders who might have over-served patrons.

Agents arrested 30 people Friday night. Most of the suspects now face charges of public intoxication.

The agents and Irving police officers traveled from bar to bar and worked undercover, according to an NBC 5 report.

The report also said that some agents shared tables with suspected drunken patrons. Some patrons were subjected to field sobriety tests inside bars.

Agents and officers said the operation represented an effort to reduce drunken driving.

Sgt. Chris Hamilton, of the TABC, said some inebriated bar patrons "end up killing themselves or someone else" after departing the businesses.
-----------
Once again, people arrested for what they "might do".

New well, it is texas.
New Re: well, it is texas.
Well, in Texas last year, when a large bunch of cops were drinking at a bar and two of 'em drove away to their tragic deaths, they arrested the bartender.
This [link|http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/dispatch/2004-12-17/pols_feature12.html|happened ] about a year ago not too far from Austin. Survivors were mad enough to [link|http://www.kvue.com/news/top/stories/042905kvueCedars-eh.2279e25f8.html|sue the bartender] for wrongful death, but not enough to sue any of the police officers the bar was full of who let them just ride away.

But maybe they learned something since then...?
Have whatever values you have. That's what America is for.
You don't need George Bush for that.
New Alaska has a similar law, it is illegal to drink alchohol
in a bar if you are intoxicated. Selectivly enforced on the folks THEM dont like at the moment.
thanx.

New St. Paddy's Day blitz
You have to remember that it was the Wearing O' the Green. Cops were out in force just about everywhere. While I don't condone the arresting inside the bar, I have a strong aversion to drunk drivers.

New I have a strong aversion to *bad* drivers
I don't give a shit how much alcohol they have in them: 0.2% or 0%. I don't want the guy weaving lane to lane getting a warning because he's just tired, while the guy busted in a road block with 0.8% goes to jail.

New Me too
but I generally arrange to be stumbing distance to my crash pad.

In Denver I lived a block or 2 away from a dozen bars and breweries.

Here on the island I can always stumble to the boat (my former full time home) from the pub and sleep there.
