I think most players will support SVCDs in addition to DVDs but It looks like support for any other format is more rare.

You could also go this route: [link|http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=210&subcategory=211&product=12985&nav=1|http://www.creative....oduct=12985&nav=1]

PS: I'm not sure where you guys are reading that he wants to burn DVDs with the player.

New "burn ... *And* play them" Yeah, its a stretch. ;-)
New Burn them - while exercising? Yeah, that IS a stretch.
Which, of course is all for the good: Stretching is essential after exercise.

New Drs who treat plantar fasciitis apparently haven't heard.
And I don't believe it either. Unless running counts as "the same motions" - and in that case doesn't it apply to almost any sport?

E.g. [link|http://www.laurelfootandanklecenter.com/sub.php?page=prob_heel_plantar|Laurel Foot and Ankle Center]:

Plantar fasciitis is caused by inflammation of the connective tissue that stretches from the base of the toes, across the arch of the foot, to the point at which it inserts into the heel bone. Also called "heel spur syndrome," the condition can usually be successfully treated with conservative measures such as use of anti-inflammatory medications and ice packs, stretching exercises, orthotic devices, and physical therapy.

Cheers,
Scott.
(Whose wife - who has run for about 30 years - has it pretty bad, and who seems to have a mild case himself.)
New I don't recall them saying anything about theraputic value
The surprising (to me) point was that stretching -- during a warm-up -- beyond the range of motion you intend to exercise is unnecessary. They saw no differences in reported pain, recovery time, range of motion, anything you would expect to be helped.

New Can't find a link to what I heard, but found this
[link|http://archives.cnn.com/2000/HEALTH/diet.fitness/09/11/fitness.stretching.ap/|Experts debate benefits of stretching with exercise]

Apparently they've been looking at this for a while. The one I heard on the radio sounds like it was reporting on a recent study designed to address the issue described in the link above. While looking for the link, I found some saying that stretching actually decresases muscle strength, and that the only pain-relief benefit is to get the brain accustomed to pain signals from the muscle.

New Nit
A recent medical study suggests that stretching before or after exercise serves no useful purpose, except for activities that are going to involve the same motions. Warming up, still needed. Stretching, no point.
