I just picked up the [link|http://video.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?ean=786936161878|TRON 20th Anniversary DVD] and am very pleased. I was surprised when I realized that Bruce Boxleitner was Tron. I didn't know who he was back in 82 when I first saw the movie and am now used to seeing him as John Sheridan on Babylon 5.
The movie was remastered and they did a very good job, the image quality is excellent. The DVD was created using the [link|http://www.dvdangle.com/dvd_tech/explanation/ar_comparison.html|anamorphic] method which yields 33% more picture detail when viewed on an HDTV set. I don't have a surround sound system yet, so I won't comment on the new audio transfer.
A second DVD is included with a bunch of extras of which I've checked out about half. I found the method used to create the "glowing circuitry" effect to be very interesting. They filmed the live action in black & white with the actors wearing white costumes with black lines drawn on them. A colored light was then shown through the photo negative image(after blacking out the face) so the lines(now white) would glow with the color. The glowing lines were then filmed by another camera. Both images where then combined. The process was repeated for each color for scenes with multiple glowing colors. The process was done frame-by-frame so it was very time consuming. There are also some deleted scenes of Tron in Yori's "apartment". They were removed because it didn't make sense for programs to be in a sexual situation. The extras were not created using the anamorphic method which makes it real easy to see how much better anamorphic DVDs are on an HDTV.
There's also reference to a forth coming sequel, [link|http://us.imdb.com/Title?0208650|TRON 2.0]
