New Kubuntu takes a step backwards
Hardware detection-wise. Wanted to install from LiveCD and check out the new installer - but no go - my Nvidia 5500 is no longer detected. Very disappointing. So much for changing over; It appears Mepis still rules the HW-detection roost. I will continue to go over the kubuntu/ubuntu sites to see where I can find information on this - but I find nothing so far. I wonder what happened?

Imric's Tips for Living
  • Paranoia Is a Survival Trait
  • Pessimists are never disappointed - but sometimes, if they are very lucky, they can be pleasantly surprised...
  • Even though everyone is out to get you, it doesn't matter unless you let them win.

Nothing is as simple as it seems in the beginning,
As hopeless as it seems in the middle,
Or as finished as it seems in the end.

New There are now two
forks of the nVidia drivers.

nvidia-legacy and nvidia

It blows. But, nVidia didn't want to support olds cards (err even some recent ones)

In about 6 months my FX5900XT is on the chopping block and will be supported in Legacy and not current forceware.

Sucks.
