New Borland to sell off language lines.
[link|http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=29561|The Inq.]:

SOFTWARE FIRM Borland said it wants a buyer for its Integrated Developer Environment (IDE) - that includes Developer Studio, C++ Builder, C#Builder and JBuilder.

<sniff!>

It's not surprising, but it's sad to see nonetheless.

Cheers,
Scott.
New JBuilder jumped the shark...
...a number of years ago when Borland decided that they were going to release 3 full major-version (point-oh) releases per year, for a number of years running, and try to charge $3000+ per seat for the Enterprise version of them. $9000 per developer per year just for a Java IDE? Bullshit. This is why NetBeans and Eclipse are so popular in the Java world.

New CRC should buy it.
It's the only way it won't get horked, or treated like Novell treated WordPerfect until it "escaped"....

New Speaking of WordPerfect.
The Washington Post has a rather scathing [link|http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/04/AR2006020400168.html|review] of WordPerfect Office X3. I hate to see it get beaten up, but he makes some very good points - X3 does seem rushed and it doesn't work as well as I hoped and expected (with existing Office 97 documents anyway).

Cheers,
Scott.
New <sigh>
As a staunch WordPerfect user and defender, I havent updated WPO since 10...I'm still waiting for them to stop fooling around and start designing the thing.

Oh, well...I'll wait for X4.
