Check into local college course -- IIRC you're in the Bay Area. Berkeley, UCD, and UCSD all run extension programs, as does USF, Stanford, most of the area community colleges, and some adult schools. Picking up a program like this (teaching) might give you a few nights of work per week and some exposure (hopefully not just to other out-of-work sobs....).
Mags introduced me to Flipdog, which does seem to do a pretty good job of gleaning postings from company sites -- nice bit is you're direct to employer, rather than going through headhunters. I've found that headhunters are far more personable these days...but less effective. I think they're more desperate for placements themselves, and are willing to work for it.
Not sure if the market's picking up, but I've had a steady dribble of nibbles since October, some weeks better than others.
