New Microsoft innovation.
[link|http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=28391|We'll just use your idea]:
According to the Vole Bogs, [link|http://blogs.msdn.com/rssteam/archive/2005/12/14/503778.aspx|here], Volish servitors met with John Lilly and Chris Beard from Mozilla and agreed to use the Firefox RSS Feed icon in IE too.

The blog says that Microsoft will be using the icon in the IE7 command bar whenever a page has a feed associated with it, and it will appear in other places in the browser whenever we need a visual to represent RSS and feeds.

"This isnt the first time that weve worked with the Mozilla team to exchange ideas and encourage consistency between browsers, and were sure it wont be the last," the blog said.

New A fine point.
Do you prefer cases like [link|http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/051215/microsoft_visto_suit.html?.v=9|this].
Visto Corp., a maker of mobile e-mail technology, has sued Microsoft Corp. for allegedly infringing on three of its patents related to how information is handled between servers and handheld devices such as cellular phones.

The lawsuit, which seeks unspecified monetary damages and a permanent injunction to stop the infringement, was filed late Wednesday -- the same day Visto announced that NTP Inc. had acquired an equity stake in the company and signed a patent licensing deal.

Visto's allegations against Microsoft and its Windows Mobile 5.0 are similar to NTP's against Research In Motion Ltd., which now faces the possible shutdown of its popular BlackBerry messaging service in the United States.

"Windows Mobile 5.0 is an infringement of Visto's intellectual property of a technology that our firm created, patented and successfully sells on the market today," Visto CEO Brian Bogosian said Thursday.

New Suing over software patents garners little sympathy from me.
Now if they stole an actual implementation or trade secrets while "partnering", as they have been accused of in the past, that would be another thing entirely.

New Microsoft.hoist(Microsoft.petard);
In general I agree with you. However, what we appear to have here is a calse of the Law of Karma asserting itself, so I can't get too exercised about it.
