Benefit of Fiber Now Doubtful
Another health icon falls to improved data analysis. It turns out those who eat more fiber apparently have lower rates of colo-rectal cancer simply because they have a healthier lifestyle overall. Compensating out other factors left little for fiber to claim (Los Angeles Times 12-14-05 A23).
The same sort of thing has cast doubt on the benefit of having a couple of alcoholic drinks every day - people who do so are now suspected of simply having a more healthy lifestyle overall than either tea totallers and heavy drinkers.
On the other hand, a large European study may still show some benefit for fiber, but needs more specific analysis to see if some groups may gain some benefit while others do not.

Not doubted by me
After nothing but pizza and Chinese take-out for about the last two weeks while we've been working on a deadline, I'm in desperate need of a freakin salad.

put more lime juice in your rum, works faster

Yeah but - I don't think . . .
. . a diet of Chinese take-out and Pizza is considered part of "a healthier lifestyle overall". It's no wonder you need a salad and probably a roto-rooter job.

The benefits aren't doubtful at all
After a couple of days of eating a high fibre diet, the phrase "too beautiful to flush" can be applied with some regularity.
This is never so if you've been on the junk food.

I've always liked the effect
of the consumption of Guiness. Sort of a green so dark it's nearly black.
