New Shouldn't that be to Aldus?
Yeh, it's history now. Aldus was eaten up by Adobe.

I bought Aldus PageMaker 4.0 for Windows when Aldus had a special deal for IBM employees. I upgraded it to Adobe PageMaker 6.0 years later, but the upgrade package had relatively scant documentation.

Not that I need it, is Illustrator the successor product to PageMaker?

New No, InDesign
sort-of. From what I've heard (which isn't much), InDesign is much better for larger documents, but not necessarily better for short things (like one or two page ads).

I've always liked Photoshop, and Adobe treated me well at the first Lua conference.

New Re: Shouldn't that be to Aldus?
Illustrator was, I believe, Adobe's first consumer-level product (in those early years they made their money licensing PostScript printers). Illustrator began as, and has remained, principally a single-page application. They acquired Aldus in the early nineties, and permitted its flagship product, PageMaker, gradually to die of neglect, although I used it up until the turn of the century, whereupon I jumped ship to InDesign, a product with which I have been largely pleased.

New I loved PageMaker
Every time someone points me at a new "desktop publishing" app for Linux that's supposed to be The Shit, it suffers so badly in comparison to what I used in 1993 that I want to cry. "Better than MS Word" is not saying a damn thing. If you don't know why I say PageMaker was worlds better than anything FOSS I'm seeing today, then you never used it in anger.
